Economic awareness and empowerment
In the rural communities of
Kailali and Kanchanpur, families of migrant workers often face the challenge of
managing the remittances sent home from South Korea and India. To address this,
Faya Nepal, in partnership with Access Advisory, launched a transformative
financial literacy program designed to empower these families to make the most
of their remittances.
The program targeted four municipalities—Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City and Godawari Municipality in Kailali, and Krishna-For Municipality and Laljhari Rural Municipality in Kanchanpur. From June to December 2019, the program reached over 700 individuals, all members of migrant workers’ families, providing them with essential knowledge on how to manage their finances more effectively.
Through engaging financial literacy classes, participants were taught how to utilize their remittances for productive investments, boosting local economies and fostering long-term growth. They were also introduced to various financial institutions and businesses that facilitate the easy transfer of remittances, enabling smoother financial transactions.
By the end of the program, the families had gained valuable insights into financial management, helping them make informed decisions about how to use their resources for sustainable development. This initiative not only enhanced their financial understanding but also opened up new opportunities for these families to build a better future.
The success of this program demonstrates the power of financial literacy in transforming lives and communities, ensuring that migrant workers' hard-earned money works for the betterment of their families and local economies.
