Building Resilient Communities through Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and Livelihood Initiatives in Kailali.
The Building Resilient Communities through Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Livelihood Initiatives program was implemented in Kailali District, targeting Bhajani Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality. This program aimed to prepare disaster-prone communities to effectively manage disaster risks by enhancing their capacities, improving livelihood opportunities, and institutionalizing sustainable community-driven models.
Through a combination of disaster preparedness training, livelihood enhancement initiatives, and the development of replicable community models, the program sought to build resilience and ensure long-term sustainability. Key activities included community-based disaster risk assessments, capacity building, promotion of climate-resilient agricultural practices, and the establishment of local disaster management committees.
The program also focused on integrating these initiatives into local governance systems to ensure alignment with regional development plans and policies. By empowering communities with the skills and resources needed to mitigate risks and improve their economic stability, the initiative created a robust foundation for disaster resilience development in Kailali.
This holistic approach not only addressed immediate vulnerabilities but also strengthened the community’s ability to recover and thrive in the face of future challenges, serving as a replicable model for other disaster-prone areas.
