School Peace Zone Campaign

The School Peace Zone Campaign Project was implemented in Kailali District from December 2007 to June 2009. The initiative covered 10 community schools, including:

·       Sarada Secondary School, Nabdurga Secondary School, Jankalyan Secondary School, and Bhawani Secondary School in Dhangadhi Municipality.

·       Fulbari Higher Secondary School in Fulbari VDC.

·       Durga Lower Secondary School in Bhagani VDC.

·       Rastriya Lower Secondary School in Shripur VDC.

·       Malika Higher Secondary School and Kalika Secondary School in Chaumala VDC.

·       Nabjyoti Lower Secondary School in Malakheti VDC.

The project aimed at:

·       Promote Schools as Zones of Peace (SZOP): Raise awareness and advocate for schools to be safe, neutral spaces free from violence and conflict.

·       Foster Community Peace and Harmony: Strengthen relationships among students, teachers, parents, and the wider community to build a culture of non-violence and understanding.

·       Campaign for Peace: Organize events, workshops, and advocacy campaigns to reinforce the importance of education in peaceful and harmonious societies.

The campaign succeeded in:

·       Enhancing awareness among students, teachers, and local communities about the significance of maintaining schools as conflict-free zones.

·       Supporting community efforts to sustain peace and harmony in areas affected by social tensions.

·       Establishing schools as models of peace and cooperation, fostering a sense of safety and inclusivity for children and educators alike.

·       By promoting education as a tool for peacebuilding, this project contributed to creating a stable and harmonious environment for learning and growth in Kailali District.
