Low-cost housing for Freed Kamaiya
The Low-Cost Housing for Freed Kamaiya project, completed in Kailali District, aimed to support the Freed Kamaiya community in realizing their fundamental right to shelter and improving their overall quality of life. The initiative focused on constructing affordable, durable housing for families who were previously bonded laborers, addressing their pressing need for secure and stable living conditions.
Beyond providing housing, the project emphasized restoring dignity and fostering a sense of belonging among Freed Kamaiyas. It sought to integrate them into the mainstream of society by creating opportunities for economic empowerment and promoting their participation in community activities.
By ensuring access to proper shelter and supporting livelihoods, the project contributed to transforming the lives of Freed Kamaiya families, enabling them to live as respected, self-reliant citizens while breaking the cycle of marginalization and poverty.
