Community Cancer Awareness Program (C-CAP)

The Community Cancer Awareness Program (C-CAP) aims to enhance awareness and early detection of breast and cervical cancer among school-aged adolescents, with active engagement of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), and teachers. The program seeks to promote healthier lifestyles and proactive health-seeking behaviour through targeted education and outreach.

Throughout the implementation period, the program will focus on capacity building of key stakeholders—schoolteachers, child clubs, and SMC/PTA members—on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), with a particular emphasis on cancer prevention and early detection. This includes orientation sessions, training workshops, and the development of user-friendly educational materials tailored for adolescents.

To extend the program’s reach, radio programs on breast and cervical cancer will be broadcast, aiming to raise community-wide awareness and destigmatise screening services.

Additionally, the program will organise sensitisation workshops in schools to educate adolescents and teachers about available screening services for breast and cervical cancer. These interactive sessions will encourage open dialogue, promote early screening practices, and empower young individuals to take informed action regarding their health.

Ultimately, C-CAP envisions a more informed and proactive school community that plays a key role in the early detection and prevention of breast and cervical cancer in their local context.
