Strengthening safe abortion eco system in Nepal
This project, implemented in Kailali District, specifically in Chure Rural Municipality and Dhangadhi Sub-metropolis, aimed to enhance access to safe abortion services by creating a robust ecosystem at the local level. The initiative focused on strengthening health systems, mobilizing communities, and engaging key stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), and media allies, to promote awareness, accessibility, and acceptance of safe abortion services.
Key activities included capacity building for healthcare providers, improving service delivery infrastructure, raising community awareness about reproductive rights, and addressing stigma surrounding abortion. The project fostered collaboration between various actors to create a supportive environment where women, especially those from marginalized communities, could access safe and legal abortion services without fear or barriers.
By integrating health system strengthening with community mobilization and advocacy, the project contributed to ensuring that safe abortion services are available, accessible, and acceptable at the local level in Kailali District.
