Views from Fron Line (VLF)

The Views from the Frontline (VLF) project was implemented in the Surkhet and Jumla districts of Nepal, specifically targeting Birendranagar Municipality and Chaukune Rural Municipality in Surkhet, as well as Chandannath Municipality and Sinja Rural Municipality in Jumla. This initiative aimed to empower vulnerable communities and civil society organizations (CSOs) to play an active role in disaster risk reduction (DRR) efforts.

The project focused on enhancing the capacity of communities and CSOs to participate effectively in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of DRR activities. By prioritizing grassroots involvement, the initiative sought to ensure that the voices of those most affected by disasters are heard and considered in decision-making processes.

Key objectives of the project included:

  • Building awareness and knowledge about disaster risks and resilience strategies.
  • Strengthening community-led disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
  • Promoting collaboration between local governments, CSOs, and communities to develop inclusive and sustainable DRR plans.
  • Ensuring that marginalized groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities, are actively included in DRR initiatives.

The VLF project represented a bottom-up approach to disaster management, emphasizing the importance of local perspectives and experiences in building resilient communities. Through this effort, vulnerable populations were better equipped to address the challenges posed by natural disasters, contributing to safer and more sustainable development in Surkhet and Jumla.
