Climate Justice, Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health
The Climate
Justice, Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health project was implemented in Kailali District, specifically in Chure
Rural Municipality and Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolis. The project aimed to address
the intersection of climate justice, gender equality, and sexual and
reproductive health (SRH), focusing on the unique challenges faced by women and
girls in the context of climate change.
Key Objectives and
Activities:
- Understanding and Mitigating Climate Change Impact on
SRH:
The project sought to analyze the effects of climate change on the sexual
and reproductive health of women and girls and implemented strategies to
address these challenges.
- Increasing Awareness and Advocacy for SRH Financing:
Community awareness campaigns were conducted to educate stakeholders about
the importance of SRH in the context of climate resilience. Advocacy
efforts targeted local governments to prioritize and allocate resources
for SRH services in their budgets and policies.
- Improving Gender-Friendly Infrastructure:
To promote gender equity and enhance access to hygiene facilities, the
project constructed gender-friendly toilets in Alad, ensuring that women
and girls had access to safe and dignified sanitation.
- Promoting Eco-Friendly Solutions:
Improved eco-friendly cooking stoves were developed and distributed to
marginalized groups. These stoves not only reduced reliance on
traditional, polluting methods of cooking but also contributed to better
health and environmental outcomes.
- Enhancing Capacity of Health Workers:
Trainings were provided to health workers in Chure Rural Municipality and
Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolis to increase the number of skilled safe abortion
service providers. This initiative aimed to improve access to quality
reproductive health services, particularly in underserved areas.
Impact:
This project empowered communities in Kailali District by
addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, gender equity, and
SRH. It enhanced local capacity, improved infrastructure, and advocated for
sustainable policies to build a more resilient and equitable future for women
and girls.
