UNFPA Country Porgram

The UNFPA Country Program was implemented in the districts of Baitadi, Bajhang, Achham, Bajura, and Kailali in Nepal. Specific areas of implementation included Patan and Dashrathchand Municipalities in Baitadi; Bithadchir Rural Municipality, Masta Rural Municipality, and Jayaprithivi Municipality in Bajhang; Mangalsen, Safebagar, and Kamal Bazar Municipalities in Achham; Badimalika and Budhinanda Municipalities and Gaumul Rural Municipality in Bajura; and Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolis in Kailali.

The program aimed to:

  1. Increase women's and girls' access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services:

    • Enhance the availability and utilization of comprehensive SRH services, including family planning, maternal health, and adolescent health care.
    • Raise awareness of SRH rights and services, especially among marginalized and vulnerable populations.
  2. Strengthen institutional and community capacity to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV):

    • Build the capacity of local governments, health facilities, and community organizations to address GBV effectively.
    • Develop community-based mechanisms to prevent GBV and provide support for survivors, including counseling, legal aid, and rehabilitation.
    • Promote social and cultural change to reduce stigma and discrimination against GBV survivors.

By integrating SRH services with GBV prevention and response strategies, the program sought to improve the health, well-being, and dignity of women and girls. It also emphasized collaboration with local stakeholders to ensure sustainable impact and long-term benefits for the targeted communities. This comprehensive approach contributed to the empowerment of women and girls, fostering a safer and healthier environment in the selected districts.
