Capacity Building Support Program for Women MPs and MPs from marginalized Group-III
FAYA Nepal, in coordination with the Parliament Support Project (PSP) of UNDP Nepal, is dedicated to empowering Members of Parliament (MPs) to effectively fulfill their roles in law-making, oversight, and representation over the years. Our commitment to capacity building spans various interventions that promote human rights, inclusion, anti-corruption, financial good governance, environmental protection, and sustainable development goals (SDGs).Over the years, we have actively engaged with women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups, helping them enhance their knowledge and skills to become more confident and effective parliamentarians. Our tailored support and mentoring programs have made a tangible impact, enabling these MPs to better represent their communities.
In Sudurpaschim Province, PA, there are 53 MPs, including 18 women and 11
MPs from marginalized groups (Aadivasi/Janajati and Dalit). Among them, 18
women MPs are serving as parliamentarians for the first time. While they have
gained valuable experience and actively participate in parliamentary committees
and House proceedings, they still require advanced technical support to enhance
their effectiveness.
Recognizing this need, the Parliament Support Project (PSP) of UNDP Nepal is seeking to build on its previous work with women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups. FAYA Nepal is eager to seize this opportunity to continue its mission of capacitating MPs. By facilitating and leading PSP's programs in Sudurpaschim Province, PA, we aim to enhance the capacity of women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups, ensuring they are well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation. This year's intervention will be continuous and adaptable, fostering a supportive environment for collaboration, shared learning, and collective efforts to address challenges.
The overall objective of the project is to build the capacities of women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups of the Sudurpaschim Province Assembly through different actions and initiatives. The specific objectives are:
To support women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups in becoming more active, effective, and influential parliamentarians by equipping them with advanced thematic and technical expertise on emerging contemporary/thematic issues.
To create a supportive environment that promotes
collaboration, peer learning, and knowledge exchange among women MPs and MPs
from marginalized groups
To establish mechanisms to track progress,
assess program effectiveness, and make improvements to ensure capacity-building
outcomes.
Scope of work:
Conduct a rapid need assessment from the women MPs and MPs from marginalized groups to identify capacity gaps and needs.
Design the program activities as per the need assessment and in consultation with PSP
Develop detailed action plans and intervention strategies for each activity/event given by this TOR and submit them to the PSP before executing the assignments.
Coordinate with the Provincial Assembly leadership, Secretariat, and parliamentary committees to implement the proposed programs, ensuring gender balance in selecting experts and participation in each event.
